HUNDREDS of foster carers are needed in the South East to avoid a shortage ‘crisis’ according to a new report – backed by Bucks County Council.
The Fostering Network claims the South East needs to find 900 extra carers in the next 12 months.
Buckinghamshire had 387 youngsters in care in October, 21 more than in the same month the year before.
Valerie Letheren, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “The message of our campaign is a simple one, if you have room in your heart and a room in your home, you can foster.
“If someone decides to foster a child from us, we will give them all the support they need including training and practical advice.
“The main thing is that they’re the right kind of person. The other thing they need is a spare room where a child or young person could feel at home. Foster carers make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people.”
