A unique and energetic fusion of street dance, acrobatics and traditional ballet is on offer at the Waterside Theatre this week.
The show sees world dance champions and 2009 Britain’s Got Talent finalists Flawless team up with members of the English National Ballet.
The story, which is set to chart music, is set in a school and follows 10 dancers from each discipline as they battle an evil professor.
Rising ballet star Anjuli Hudson said: “It is really exciting, we have never done anything like this before. The English National Ballet is very classical and this is a first for all of us.
“Ballet has a very narrow audience in many ways, but it is not just for older people. By doing something like this we are drawing a younger audience.”
Anjuli, 24, is full of praise for her fellow stars from Flawless, who are also known for appearing in the StreetDance 2 and 3D movies and have been teaching their moves to the ballet girls.
She said: “Originally I don’t think we were going to do any street dancing, but that makes this more exciting.
“I think we have all achieved and done more than we thought we could.
“At first, they didn’t think we could do anything that they do, but they have taught us a lot and we have been teaching them.
“For example we learnt a robot technique and some break dancing, which we are doing in the show.”
Wayne Eagling, artistic director of the English National Ballet, said: “Collaborations like this are vital for English National Ballet to keep the company fresh and modern and for dancer development.”
The show is choreographed by Jenna Lee, who has created ballet pieces for TV and festivals and Flawless’ Marlon ‘Swoosh’ Wallen. It runs at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1.
