A £38,000 play area which will encourage children’s learning has opened in Aylesbury.

The project has seen a small Tarmac fenced area at the Southcourt Community Centre transformed into what Aylesbury Vale District Council says includes a ‘tactile wooden animals and an innovative sensory landscape to stimulate creative and imaginative play’.

It said community centre groups were consulted and asked what facilities they would like at the learning area.

Plans for the outside space were well received and supported which resulted in the facilities on offer today.

The funding of £38,000 was allocated out of the council’s ‘Section 106’ planning money from developers to pay for the improvements.

Councillor David Thompson, cabinet member for leisure, said: “I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to improve the community centre facilities and give local children a better outdoor area that will help them develop and learn.

“This enables children to learn and rehearse the skills they will need throughout their lives.”
