April showers put paid to a host of sports fixtures

Sport and inparticular football right across Bucks suffered at the weekend as a host of games fell foul of the April showers.

Aylesbury United’s trip to London Tigers on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and at the time of going to press the game had been rescheduled for Tuesday evening at Silver Jubilee Park.

Provisions had also been put in place for the game to be played at Leighton Town’s ground on Wednesday evening should poor weather prevent play again.

After Haringey Borough lost 4-2 to Royston Town on Saturday, the Ducks could now secure fourth place, and the ‘Champions League’ spot Ducks manager Tony Joyce craves, should they win.

Aylesbury FC’s match at North Greenford United was also postponed due to unplayable conditions and had been rescheduled for Tuesday evening at the time of going to press.

Having staved off the threat of relegation, the Moles have been on a high of late with a three-game unbeaten streak and manager Steve Smith is hopeful of maintaining the high morale.

While United and FC’s seasons effectively finished some time ago, Aylesbury’s elite Sunday league team Britannia have claimed all before them in a trophy laden season.

However, their bid for a third piece of silverware will have to wait after their Vale of Aylesbury Trophy final against FC Bricklayers was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at Aylesbury FC’s Affinity Stadium.
