Army dish out a lesson in rugby to RAF

THE Army flexed their muscles when they ran out winners in a festival of rugby held at RAF Halton last week.

The Army won all games convincingly but the general impression was that the RAF gave them a hard time, destroying well laid down game plans.

Halton witnessed three of the biggest games in the military rugby calendar and it was the first time the inter-service match has been played on RAF soil for 24 years.

Wing Commander Stephen Borthwick, acting station commander, said: “It was a massive day for the RAF and indeed for military rugby as it is the first RAF Festival of Rugby for a long time, and it was a pleasure.

“Halton is the home for sport, a centre of excellence where we play 17 different sports.”
