‘Father of allotments’
Ken Jones was the chairman of Stones Close Allotments and was a much-loved member of the community.
He passed away in June 2010 following a battle with cancer, leaving behind his wife Gladys and daughter Caroline.
Before Ken retired, he was the manager of the town’s Co-op store and his management and diplomacy skills proved to be huge assets at Stones Close Allotments, where his commitment spanned decades.
Shortly after his death a spokesman for the council said: “Ken will be remembered for his pride and enthusiasm as he watched the allotments grow.
“To be shown around them by him was to witness this first hand. Ken Jones truly was the father of Stones Close Allotments.”
In the ceremony last week Thame mayor David Bretherton presented Gladys with a plaque, hand-painted by a member of the allotment society, to place in front of the tree.
Last year the society were able develop land next to the allotments into more plots.
