UNEMPLOYMENT has dropped in the Thame area, bucking the national trend.

The number of people without jobs in the Henley constituency fell in October.

The number of unemployed claimants has fallen and now stands at 660, 55 lower than September and 68 lower than this time last year.

Throughout the year, there has been a downward trend in the number of unemployed.

MP for Thame John Howell said: “I welcome the fall in unemployment within the constituency and that we are bucking the national trend.

“Some 80 per cent of our local economy comes from the private sector so I suspect we are relatively little affected by changes in the public sector.

“It is particularly encouraging to see that youth unemployment, those under 24, has fallen by 17 per cent over the year in this constituency.”
