UNEMPLOYMENT has dropped in the Thame area according to the Office for National Statistics.

A new report states that there are 712 unemployed claimants in the Henley constituency, which includes Thame.

The figure is nine less than in January 2011 and is the fourth lowest level of unemployment in the country.

The number of claimants aged 18-24 is 20 fewer than in January 2011.

Thame MP John Howell said: “I am glad that unemployment has maintained its downward trend in the constituency over the past year, including youth unemployment.

“We may be the fourth best performing constituency in the country but unemployment is still a problem for each of those facing it.

“In our specific circumstances this gives us an opportunity to help make sure that we concentrate on whether the skills are available for the growth of the constituency’s small and medium-sized companies.”
