Thame Swimming Club have recently returned from their most successful South East Region Swimming Championships after a record number of six swimmers competed in a 21 swims.
The championships took place between April 30 and May 2 in Portsmouth for the 15+ year old age group. There were a number of excellent performances from Thame’s swimmers, most notably that of Jo Hewett who recorded personal best times in five of her six events to win a superb five medals in the multi-class disability category.
These included two golds in the 100m breaststroke and 200m freestyle plus bronze medals in the 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
Marcus Birmingham also broke PBs galore, coming away with four new best times in the 200m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke where he came eighth in the final and 400m individual medley.
First time regional swimmer and fellow Thame member Harry Block was in fine fettle as he came an impressive 14th out of 28 swimmers in the 50m butterfly.
The 14 & under squad then competed over two weekends in May in Crawley and again huge congratulations go to all three, with all of them competing at their first regionals.
Lucy Block became the club’s youngest ever regional swimmer when racing in the 50m back, while Elizabeth Humphreys swam in all four events.
Josh Williams was in superb form too as he set PBs in seven of his 10 races, including a fine performance in the 200m freestyle final when he finished seventh.
