FC Thame won their first ever piece of silverware this week when they beat Lynchpin FC 2-0 in the Slough Town Cup final at Burnham FC in front of over 450 fans.
Lynchpin, who boasted a 100 percent winning record in their league campaign and were on for a home quadruple, were most people’s favourites, but Thame turned the tables with a fantastic team performance.
Although a sunny bank holiday Friday, the previous night’s rain had made for a slightly wet pitch and Thame started slowly with Nick Gurney getting a yellow for a late challenge almost immediately.
However, by the half-time whistle, Thame had dragged themselves into the contest which had become a midfield battle with few chances.
It was the second half when the game came to life as Thame firmly took control of the match.
A wonderful run from the left wing by Ryan Binnee saw him ghost past three players before playing a fantastic ball into skipper Shayne Almond, who coolly smashed the ball past the Lynchpin keeper for 1-0.
Thame visibly grew in confidence and any attacking threat from Lynchpin was easily snuffed out by Rob Eason and Tom Gibbons at centre back.
Thame then made a couple of changes and it was the two subs that combined for the killer goal.
Almond drilled a beautiful ball into the box which Sean Coles took first time before back-healing to Alex Woodfine, who stroked the ball past the keeper for 2-0.
It was a fantastic team goal and summed up the spirit within the side.
Thame saw out the remaining ten minutes to lift the cup and start the celebrations.
The lads now return to league action and Amersham away on Saturday.
