Goals from Ben Gray and Ellis Hercules saw Thame United overcome Bracknell Town 2-0 to claim their 12th consecutive league win.
The victory keeps United fourth in the Hellenic Premier Division and sees them close the gap to seven points on leaders Highmoor Ibis, who drew in a top-of-the-table clash with Kidlington.
With both Thame and Bracknell coming in to the fixture in good form, an entertaining match was anticipated and so it proved with the visitors starting the stronger side and for much of the opening 10 minutes, United were unable to secure any meaningful possession in the opponents half.
When they did, however, captain Adam Morris went close with a 20-yard drive on 10 minutes before three minutes later, Luke Ricketts burst into the box but was well tackled as he was about to shoot.
Gray volleyed over shortly afterwards before Thame’s good play was rewarded on 16 minutes when Gray converted from close-range.
Bracknell surged forward looking for an instant reply with a Sam Whiting 25-yard free-kick crashing against the post from 25 yards, but Thame remained the more threatening side as Gray headed over before Dan West shot wide.
United opened the second half in more determined mood, pressing their opponents and enjoying more of the ball, although clear-cut chances were at a premium, while at the other end, home goalkeeper Matt Tapping called into action on a couple of occasions.
The next goal was crucial and it was Thame who found it when, on 75 minutes, Jones’ corner was headed home by Hercules from eight yards.
The same routine nearly worked twice more in the next five minutes, but Hercules was unable to find the back of the net. A Morris effort was then blocked before a West cross evaded the on-running strikers and was cleared as United ran out comfortable winners.
Thame, who are seven points off top with three games in hand, travel to Thatcham Town this weekend.
