Thame United came from 2-0 down to beat Abingdon United 3-2 on Tuesday evening and extend their extraordinary run of wins to 10 games in the Hellenic Premier Division.
In a game of two halves, United found themselves trailing 2-0 at half-time but an 88th minute winner from Ben Gray ensured all three points as Thame climbed to third in the table, three points behind leaders Highmoor Ibis, who have played two games more.
Playing with a ferocious wind behind them in the first half, Abingdon dominated both territory and possession with Matt Hall clearing off the line before Josh Cockerill turned a powerful effort around the post.
The breakthrough came on 29 minutes when a cross into the box was headed against the crossbar and Anaclet Odhiambo was on hand to head the ball home from close-range.
Abingon then made it 2-0 through Kieron Chochrane, who lobbed the ball over Cockerill and into the net.
Trailing 2-0 at half-time, United had the wind behind them in the second half and they pulled a goal back instantly when a free-kick into the box by Adam Morris was met by the head of Dan West at the far post.
Chances came and went for United with West, Morris and Dan Jones all going close before, on 75 minutes, a Jones corner to the far post was poked home by West.
From then on it was Thame who looked the likelier to grab the winner and it duly arrived on 88 minutes. A through ball found Gray on the wide left and he cut in onto his right foot and placed a low shot to Farrow’s left.
Although Abingdon pushed forward in the final minutes, Thame held on to claim a 10th successive victory.
Thame’s ninth straight win came on Saturday when they battled to a hard-fought victory over Binfield after goals from Luke Ricketts and Gray.
This weekend, United entertain Headington Amateurs in the Challenge Cup.
