Water babies – and adults –are getting ready to don their swimming costumes and dive in to the third Thame Rotary Club Swimathon.

The first one was held in 2012 in the wake of the London Olympics, and local businesses have clubbed together each year since to raise cash for several of the town’s charities.

The watery fun is being held at Thame Leisure Centre between 10am and 2pm on Sunday and has been made possible thanks to the support of Park Street Dental Clinic, Abbotts Office Solutions, Vale Life Magazine, Booker Tate, Haddenham Beer Festival, Silent View Windows, Ignite Sport and Thame Leisure Centre.

The previous two swimathons raised nearly £4,500 for the chosen charities and this year participants will be swimming in support of Thame SAFARI, Thame Children’s Choir and the Thame Skatepark Project.

Thame Rotary Club spokesman Marius Ciortan said: “Teams of six swim for 55 minutes, have fun and raise money for charity.

“We are expecting 100 people over the age of eight to come and swim and have fun.”

Teams from Thame Town Council, Barley Hill School, Booker Tate and more will also be able to raise 50% for their chosen charity, with the other half going to the Rotary Club’s charities.

Marius said: “Everyone taking part will receive a medal and certificate from deputy mayor Nichola Dixon and Linda Emery, president of Thame Rotary Club.”
