A dental hygienist has been prosecuted after practicing illegally for more than a year.
Anita Loftus was working at Tavistock Dental Practice in Tring Road between June 2012 and February this year, despite being removed from the General Dental Council in 2011 for failing to pay her Annual Retention Fee.
She also was working at Liam G. FitzGerald Associates in Thame between the same time period.
Aylesbury Magistrates’ Court heard Ms Loftus plead guilty to unlawfully practising dentistry contrary to Section 38 of the Dentists Act 1984.
She was fined £200, ordered to pay £250 towards the GDC’s legal fees and a £20 victim surcharge.
By law all dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, clinical dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists must be registered with the GDC to work in the UK.
This is to ensure only appropriately qualified and skilled dental professionals are part of the dental team looking after patients.
