Farmers affected by HS2 are being given the chance to visit the HS1 route in Kent and speak to farmers whose land was affected by the creation of the railway line.
The National Farmers Union is offering the visit, which will take place on Wednesday (June 4), to their members.
County adviser Annie Vernon said: “HS2 is going to cause great challenges for the farming community along the route, and one of the huge strengths of the NFU is that it’s a national organisation which can draw on the experiences of farmers elsewhere in the country who have suffered under similar schemes.
“We have been working closely with those in Kent who experienced the HS1 consultation, construction phase and now the operation of the line; and we hope that NFU members up here in Bucks will take this opportunity to meet their fellow farmers and hear first-hand their experiences, the things to be aware of and potential challenges ahead.”
Farmers will get the chance to see the high speed rail line and visit two farmers who have been affected by the line.
They will also visit the new Ashford cattle market, which was relocated as a result of HS1.
Their tour will also take in site visits to see specific bridges and underpasses.
The day will be a long one, but should provide members with a great deal of information and insight, and part of the journey will be undertaken on HS1 to experience travelling by high speed rail.
