Plans have been submitted to demolish a disused pub in Southcourt and build a care home in its place.

Charity SeeAbility wants to turn The Steeplechase in Taylor Road, which has been empty for a number of years, into a care home for people with sight problems and other disabilities.

Fundraising and marketing director Jane McGann said: “We think this site has potential because it can offer the space we require to deal with our residents complex needs for example wheelchair access.

“We are hopeful of recruiting staff and volunteers from the local community to work at the home if it is given the go-ahead.

“Although there are a lot of care homes already in Aylesbury, we are bringing something different to the market and we do not believe we have any direct competitors in the town.”

The developers are hopeful of completing the project within an 18-month timescale if the development is given the green light by Aylesbury Vale District Council.

Plans to change the site from a pub to an Islamic education and prayer centre were submitted in November 2012 however the application was later withdrawn.
