A man whose son was killed in a car crash five years ago is completing a 230-mile charity bike ride in his memory.
Rob Stiles, 57, from Thame is aiming to complete the challenge from Goring in south Oxfordshire to Paris in three days.
He is planning to finish the ride on May 17, exactly five years to the day that his 18-year-old son Greg was tragically killed while driving on the A4129 from Kingsey to Longwick.
The accident also left Greg’s girlfriend Abigail Dowdy, from Prestwood, in a coma for over two weeks.
Rob is seeking to raise funds for the Thame Youth Memorial Trust through the cycling challenge.
He said: “I have been involved with Thame cycling club for over a year and this ride seemed a good way of helping to raise money to maintain the memorial.
“Training is going well, and I am feeling fairly relaxed about the challenge.
“I have been out training with the cycling club on 40 or 50 mile rides to help with my preparation but if there is one bit I’m worried about, then it is the hills!”
Racing driver Sammy Edwards, from Marsh, was jailed for causing the crash, and Rob said the news that Edwards had been released after serving only half his sentence was frustrating.
He said: “It is frustrating because we would prefer that he served the full sentence but I guess that is just the way it is.
“We have found it hard to move on but cycling is definitely helping me because I do find it therapeutic.
“To finish in Paris on the anniversary of Greg’s death will be very poignant for me and a fitting tribute.”
