Relegation threatens new-look Chinnor

Matt Goode says relegation is not a concern after his new-look Chinnor side slumped into the bottom four of the league.

The Villagers, who had new coach Matt Williams on the sidelines and six new players in the squad, were edged out 28-22 at home to Clifton on Saturday.

But tries from debutant Ricky Cano, Leo Fielding, Will Millett and Joe Pickett did secure two bonus points for the hosts, who are now 13th in National Division 2 South.

Goode said: “There’s still a lot to play for and we will be comfortable. We have no worries.

“Handling errors and decision making let us down and we’ve now used 50 players already this season. That’s going to be difficult for any club.

“We needed to bulk up the team in certain positions but we need to have a look at our discipline and our defence.”

Goode admitted the aim of finishing in the top six was now beyond them and a mid-table finish is a more realistic goal.

And he is confident of doing so as upcoming fixtures include teams below them.

Chinnor travel to seventh-placed Cambridge tomorrow (3pm KO).
