Council tax will be cut for the third year in a row in South Oxfordshire if the district authority’s budget proposals get the green light next month.
The district council plans to reduce rates by 2.5%, the only authority in the county planning a tax cut, with Oxfordshire County Council likely to implement a 1.99% hike.
South Oxfordshire District Council currently charges the 14th lowest rate in England and the change would put them into the bottom 10. The council currently charges £117.62 annually for a band D home.
Council leader Ann Ducker said: “Our mantra here is the best possible services at the lowest possible cost.
“To deliver this we constantly look for ways to improve efficiency, cut out waste and increase income.
“I think that we run this more like a business than a local authority and staff and councillors have bought into this approach.
“Like any business our customers are at the heart of what we do.
“We have very high levels of resident satisfaction and take very seriously our responsibilities towards those who are less fortunate.
“Our approach is simple but it works.
“There is too much money wasted in local government and others could do worse than learn from our example.”
