Four power cuts in three days have affected residents in Aylesbury over the New Year period.
Around 225 homes in the Tring Road area of town lost electricity, with the A41’s new traffic lights also affected.
Businesses in the area are also understood to have been affected, including Sainsbury’s and The Plough pub.
UK Power Networks said power was out on December 29, New Year’s Day and yesterday (January 2) because of ‘a fault on the electricity distribution network’.
The power cut on Sunday lasted from 4.14pm for around half an hour, with shoppers being turned away from Sainsbury’s.
Aylesbury resident Connie Primmer said: “It was quite annoying as it’s one of the few shops open after 4pm on a Sunday and I needed to get basics like milk and bread after returning from a Christmas holiday.
“There was a crowd of angry-looking shoppers gathered outside the door and Sainsbury’s staff were turning them away.
“The traffic lights being off was quite scary but then that junction is precarious even when the lights are on so it didn’t make much difference.”
The other power cuts were from 8.31pm to 9.23pm and 9.27pm until 10.26pm on New Year’s Day and from 5.05pm yesterday until 1.20am this morning.
Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “The new traffic lights and street lights were out of action resulting in danger for drivers and pedestrians during the rush hour.”
UK Power Networks spokeswoman Kate Parkin said: “UK Power Networks engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to customers in Aylesbury who experienced interruptions to their supplies because of a fault on the electricity distribution network.
“We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident.”
Some people took to Twitter to express frustration at the ongoing problems, but also pointed out that traffic was flowing better with the new signals out of action.
One tweeter, silvertears, said of the lights being off: “Good hope they stay broken.
“They are a pain and made the traffic worse.”
Another, Ste Tino, tweeted: “Yet again the lights fail and there’s no traffic!
“Someone kill the lights forever!”
