Eating out is one of the delights of life. No shopping, no cooking and no washing up – sounds perfect.
Restaurants and cafes of course come in all styles and sizes to suit different occasions.
But if you’re looking for somewhere fairly local to enjoy a lovely cup of coffee and a bowl of warming soup, a hot jacket potato or a delicious naughty cake, you could try The Potting Shed at Askett.
Located in the grounds of Askett Nurseries, the cafe opened in June and will remain open throughout the Christmas period (excluding Chrsitmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day).
I popped along there recently with a friend and we enjoyed welcome hospitality, surrounded by mums and toddlers who looked as if they were regulars.
Indeed, manager Alex Bayntun-Lees told me: “With three schools nearby we do get a lot of mums popping in for coffee after the school run.
“And on Friday afternoons they often bring their children along for an ice cream after school has finished for the week.”
The cafe is housed in a lovely log cabin and has a couple of comfy sofas amongst the tables and chairs.
Mr Bayntun-Lees said: “Our festive mince pies are already out and we will have some seasonal specials on the menu board from next week.
“It’s all going very well, we have a large base of regulars, many of whom come in with their families especially on Sundays.
“And the local mountain bikers join us for breakfast before rides out across the Chilterns.”
