People hoping to lose weight in the new year are being urged to sign up for Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s Biggest Loser fundraising campaign.
The 18-week campaign will offer 60 people gym memberships, personal training classes and nutritional advice in return for raising a minimum of £500 each for the charity.
There will be prizes available for the person who loses the most weight and whoever raises the most money, as well as a year’s free gym membership for the ‘biggest losers’ at each of the participating gyms, Nuffield Health in Aylesbury and St Albans and Fitness First in High Wycombe.
Last year 24 people lost more than 45 stone between them, raising £20,000,
The 2013 Biggest Loser was Sarah Mobsby, who lost more than four and half stone.
She said: “Taking part in the Biggest Loser was one of the best things I have ever done.
“Being able to choose to be based at a gym convenient to me was a key part of my success and the support given by the trainers at the gym was just fantastic.
“For the first time I really started to enjoy exercising and when combined with the sensible and practical nutritional programme, the weight started to fall off.
“It was also immensely reassuring to know that if I had questions, there was an expert on hand to ask and to offer encouragement.
“The gym membership that I won has been invaluable in helping me keep the weight off.
“I still attend the gym regularly and because I enjoyed the weekly class with all the other Biggest Loser participants so much during the programme, I have kept it going now.
“I really do believe that the changes I made to my lifestyle will stick with me for life and I would actively encourage others to take the first step towards a massive life change and fill in the application form.
“I have never regretted it for a single second.”
The campaign starts on January 20.
