Stoke Mandeville Hospital multi-storey car park delayed

The building of a multi-storey car park at Stoke Mandeville Hospital is unlikely to be finished until October next year.

In July, Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, told The Bucks Herald work would start on the 300-space facility this month.

But delays in the tender process mean construction work is unlikely to begin until early 2014.

Councillor Brian Tyndall, who has long campaigned for the new car park, said: “Despite the public announcement from Ian Garlington, a director on the NHS Trust, that the multi-storey car park would start this September, we - that is visitors, patients, staff and more importantly local residents who have suffered the blight of this delay - have now been told the multi-storey is now a year away.

“Gutted is often an overused phrase used, but I am sure it is how many feel now.”

The hospital has applied for planning permission for a temporary 553 space car park to ease parking problems while the multi-storey is built.
