Plans to move Aylesbury’s library to the High Street are to be discussed by council chiefs.
Talks have been ongoing for several months on moving the Walton Street facility, as well as other services, into Aylesbury Vale District Council’s former offices near Vale Park.
Next week council cabinet members will vote on the plan, which would see other services including the tourist information centre, currently located by the King’s Head pub, move to the High Street location.
Plans for NHS teams to occupy parts of the building within the next few months have already been agreed. These will be back office workers for the Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust and the Oxfordshire Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Should the scheme be given the green light, the council would close its remaining ‘face-to-face’ services at the old offices and move these to its Gateway site before the end of the year.
The move, which would require some refurbishment of the High Street site, would take about a year to complete.
If the library does move from Walton Street, Grosvenor Estates, who own the site and Friars Square, would look to redevelop it.
