Tring Corinthians survived two red cards to secure a point at Wolverton in a 1-1 draw in the South Midlands Division 2.

The visitors were unfortunate not to take all three points as they showed all their character and determination to battle hard in a surreal encounter that left both managers scratching their heads.

The game started at a brisk tempo and it was the home side that created the bulk of the half chances, as their aerial strength told.

However, the match took a controversial turn, as Corinthians’ Flaherty was booked for clearing a poorly taken corner and Wheeler-King was booked for dissent for the most innocuous of comments.

The pair would both see red cards for similarly innocuous incidents.

And things got worse for Tring, when on the stroke of half time the visitors took the lead from another needless set piece.

Tring dug deep though as Wheeler-King got on the end of superb Gomm cross to restore parity.

Despite being down to nine Tring came closest to stealing all three points as Brumwell narrowly headed wide.

Manager Simon Lacey said: “I’m exceptionally proud of the player’s performance, to fight back against overwhelming odds is simply incredible.

“It’s a difficult place to come with 11 men, let alone ten and when you have a player booked simply for clearing a corner, you fear it won’t be your day, however the fact I’m disappointed with just a point says a lot about our performance.”
