PAINTINGS depicting how Aylesbury used to look have proved extremely popular – with more than 1,500 flocking to a new exhibition to take a trip down memory lane.

The show has the simple title of 100 Pictures From The Museum’s Collections.

It runs until May at the Bucks County Museum in Aylesbury.

Highlights include this image (left) of Aylesbury which was created in 1810.

Museum spokesman Kate Walker said: “We have tried to bring out some works that haven’t been on public display for many years.

“A pity that they are not more often displayed, but a delight to see some of the hidden riches of the 4,500 pictures in the Bucks art collections. The pictures all feature locations across Buckinghamshire and there are many from Aylesbury Vale

“Many of the pictures are topographical, some the only evidence for vanished places and buildings.

“But we’ve thrown in a few quirky and original pictures for variety. Many of the 100 pictures have been acquired thanks to generous support from the friends and patrons of the museum as well as funding from other national and local bodies.”

Morning and afternoon tours of the exhibition are available on February 23 and March 15.
