A new Sainsbury’s Local will open in Bedgrove next year and create more than 20 new jobs.
The supermarket giant will use one of the two new retail units which are currently being built in Jansel Square and will open in the first quarter of 2014.
The Camborne Avenue shop will trade from 7am to 11pm and will provide competition to the nearby Budgens store.
Sainsbury’s Local convenience shops typically offer a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, bakery goods, snacks and other products.
Sainsbury’s regional acquisitions manager Robin Ockendon said: “I am pleased to confirm that we are opening a new convenience store at Camborne Avenue, Bedgrove.
“We look forward to creating new jobs and adding to the existing vibrant offer at Jansel Square.”
The store said it expects to create between 20 and 25 new full and part-time job opportunities.
The jobs will all offer a variety of training and skills programmes for people who wish to continue develop while at the store.
Sainsbury’s already has a local store in Oakfield Road.
It is also proposing a a 70,000 sq ft superstore on the corner of Bicester Road and Gatehouse Road which are due to go before district council’s planning committee in August.
The plans also include revamping the existing store in Buckingham Street.
