Ambulance ‘blocked’ en route to help dying woman

A woman was denied help as she was dying because a driver blocked paramedics rushing to the scene.

The ambulance was on route to the elderly woman in Buttermarket, Thame, when a driver deliberately blocked it and made rude gestures to the paramedics on the A418.

Two ambulances, a response car and air ambulance attended but the woman was declared dead at the scene on Sunday shortly after 12pm.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman James Keating-Wilkes said: “We were not held up long and luckily we had other resources at the scene.

“But how would they feel if they made the call and we were en route to their loved ones?

“It’s unacceptable and unbelievable. It’s one thing for people to panic and not to know how to pull over but it’s another to gesticulate at our crew and basically stop them from getting there.”

Police have identified the vehicle and are now investigating. If you have information call 101.
