The maternity ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital is set to undergo a revamp costing nearly £1 million.
The refurbishment of the Rothschild ward is expected to take 15 weeks to complete.
It will include upgrading each of the six bedded bays with an ensuite bathroom and toilet, which have improved accessibility for wheelchair users.
The existing bathroom, toilets and nurses’ station will also be upgraded and new flooring will be laid throughout the ward.
The maternity unit was given £996k from central government in January to improve and modernise the facilities for pregnant women, new mums and their families.
The midwifery team decided the focus should be on improving the environment for women on the ante-natal and post-natal ward.
Head of midwifery Audrey Warren said: “We are delighted and excited to commence work on this important project, which will enhance and modernise the environment of the Rothschild ward.
“This will help to ensure women have the best possible experience during their stay on our ward, which is what we as a team constantly strive for. In addition, this work compliments our other state-of-the-art labour and neonatal facilities developed over the past few years on this site.”
Work will be phased to minimise the disruption.
