We may currently be experiencing one of the hottest summers on record but staff inside County Hall are already planning for winter snow.

Deliveries of salt will start this month to make sure that there is enough in reserve to cope with freezing temperatures and icy road conditions.

In total, 10,000 tonnes of salt will be delivered across the five stores throughout the county.

This will bring the total salt reserves up to 12500 tonnes.

Apart from spreading on roads to combat freezing conditions,

Bucks County Council also fill and maintain the salt bins throughout the county.

Part of the preparation work, a review of the primary and secondary routes that are treated is conducted to make sure that key roads are covered to keep as much of the county’s roads usable and safe.

Last year, 1,406kms of road were gritted, which equates to 40% of the roads in the county.

Janet Blake, cabinet member for planning and transportation said: “Although we don’t want to think about it when the sun is shining, the preparation work we can do now goes a long way towards the delivery of a successful winter service for the county.”
