Carr’s amazing 200 not out seals win for Thame

It is not often that the Thame Second XI grab the headlines but on Saturday veteran opener Richard Carr stole the plaudits with an incredible 200 not out sealing victory at Challow and Childrey.

Carr rewrote the record books with his total the highest ever by a Thame batsman in the Cherwell League.

Carr smashed 31 fours and two sixes enabling Thame to declare on 314 for 4. Chris Jeffcock (42) was the next highest scoring Thame batsman.

In reply Carr’s old school mate Ian McStay (6 for 24) ripped through the Challow batting, and the home side were eventually bowled out for a measly 114.

Meanwhile, back at Church Meadow the Firsts put on an impressive display to beat Leighton Buzzard Firsts.

Some superb early bowling from John Maynard (3 for 44) saw Buzzard reduced to 61 for 4.

However a magnificent 144 not out from G Carr saw the game turned back in the visitor’s favour and they finished on an impressive 253 for 5 after their 53 overs.

When Thame batted they quickly got into their stride on a pitch that was becoming a batsman’s paradise.

Mike Higgs and Deon Laubscher served up a treat as they hit 84 and 82 respectively to easily reel in Buzzard’s total.

Even a late flurry of wickets late on was not enough to stop Thame easily reaching their target to win the game with one over and two wickets in hand.
