Funeral held for popular Lucas furniture boss

Hundreds of people attended the funeral of John Lucas, who ran Lucas World of Furniture for many years.

Mr Lucas, the grandson of the founder of the popular Aylesbury furniture business, died at the age of 92 on Friday, May 24.

His funeral was held at The Chilterns Crematorium on Monday with more than 200 people present.

A double slot was booked to accommodate the amount of people who wished to attend and the length of the service.

Lucas World of Furniture was founded in 1898 by Mr Lucas’s grandfather who first ran a very successful pawn shop in Aylesbury before moving into furniture.

John Lucas, who joined the family business as a young man, also volunteered for the army and served gallantly.

He lived on Watermead for more than 20 years with his wife Barbara.

They had four children, Sally, Susan, David and their late son Peter who died three years ago.

They also had six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Following his funeral, the congregation was invited back to Mr Lucas’s home.

Donations were given to The Burma Forces Welfare Association.
