Classic car fans have a stunning series of events to savour this month with some mouthwatering models both on display and for sale.
The Chiltern Hills Rally aims to bounce back after last year’s wash-out cancellation as thousands get set to descend on the famous charity fundraising event at Weston Turville on Whit Sunday, May 19.
Two days earlier, Silverstone Auctions has some stunning motors coming under the hammer at the world famous race track.
And at nearby Milton Keynes, there is an open day on Saturday (May 11) at Wolverton to celebrate a franchise agreement between Deutschtech and Prestige Performance Centre, attended by a number of touring car drivers.
Wolverton-based Deutschtech are specialists in servicing Porsche, BMW and MINI. Prestige Performance Centre is a performance car specialist with a long history of performance car servicing and maintenance at its workshop in Essex, with their sister team at Design911. With a strong connection to the racing world they bring their track knowledge to the road driver to get the best performance from customers’ cars.
Organisers of the Chiltern Hills Rally will be praying for sunshine at their event next to Aylesbury Rugby Club, Weston Turville.
The event is the 20th to be organised by The Game Club, which has raised hundreds of thousands for local good causes. The 2012 rally was cancelled because of severe flooding and this year’s was hit by the recent death of chairman Ron Miller.
This year will see around 1,000 vehicles arriving at the site including cars, commercials, emergency vehicles, coaches, stationary engines, motorcycles, tractors and military.
There will also be a host of family attractions.
One of the organisers, Adrian Fell, said: “It’s been a hell of a lot drier this year, so fingers crossed it will be OK. We are all pulling together.”
This year’s event is due to run from 10am-5pm – visit www. chilternhillsrally.org.uk for full details.
Meanwhile those with classics on their mind and money in their pockets can visit Silverstone’s International trophy Sale on Friday, May 17.
Organised by Silverstone Auctions, the event also includes for the first time a lifestyle auction with high end vintage wines, jewellery, leather goods and other gifts up for grabs.
Sixty one cars and two motorbikes are open to offers, the top end buy expected to be a Ferrari 330 GT Series 1 estimated at £95,000-£110,000.
There are a number of vehicles with no reserve, meaning that models such as a 1935 Austin 7 Ruby and 1947 Lanchester LD10 could be going for a song.
There is free entry for the auction and to the circuit, with preview day on May 16. Visit www.silverstone auctions.com.
Happy motoring!
