Wheatley Rugby Club is holding a tournament in memory of a club legend who died after collapsing during a game earlier this year.
The rugby world was left in mourning when 42 year old fly-half Jason Laman collapsed while lining up a conversion against Crowthorne in January.
The self-employed builder was pronounced dead at hospital.
Twitter was full of tributes with global stars such as Mike Tindall and Matt Giteau paying their respects.
At the time Wheatley RFC chairman Peter Ramsdale described the player as ‘the embodiment of the club’ and said they ‘were trying to pick themselves up’.
But ahead of the memorial game he said: “There should be quite a lot people there and we will be playing for the Jason Laman Memorial Cup. I’m looking forward to playing for the veterans.”
Wheatley, Crowthorne and a Wheatley veterans team will all play for the cup from 2pm with a barbecue and raffle on the day at Holton Playing Fields.
Proceeds from the day will go towards Help the Heroes.
Laman left behind wife Rayner, children Chloe, Abbie and Aaron and stepchildren Leanne Blisset, Cleo Hadfield and Jake Hadfield.
