Time to saddle up for 10th Tour de Vale bike ride

People wanting to take part in the popular annual Tour de Vale bike ride can register at a sign-up event next week.

The event, now in its 10th year, starts and finishes at Stoke Mandeville Stadium with three different routes through the countryside.

Last year 1,000 riders helped raise £25,000 for WheelPower, the national charity for wheelchair sport based at Stoke Mandeville.

For families there is an easy 15-mile route, while the 35-mile circuit is perfect for leisure riders and the 55-mile route is for people looking for a challenge.

The three routes are fully signed and there are safety marshals and mechanics in case of emergency. There will also be water stops on each route and refreshments and changing facilities at the start and finish.

The event is taking place on Sunday, June 9. The 55-mile ride will start at 9am, the 35 mile at 10am and the 15-mile circuit at 10.30am.

People wishing to take part can register online or by post and there will be a sign up day on April 27 at Hale Leys Shopping Centre from 10am to 3pm.

At the sign up there will be lots of information about the ride and people will be able to view the routes.

Advanced entry is £10 for adults and free for under 16s, who must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registering closes on June 5. The entry fee on the day will be £20.
