Cup finals are like buses for Aylesbury United this season, they’ve waited eight years for one and now two have come along at once.

The Ducks made it to the Premier Division Cup final after a stunning 5-3 extra-time semi-final win at Oxhey Jets.

It is eight years this May since United played Wycombe in their last cup final but now they face two in two months after a stirring fightback from 3-1 down at half-time with Louis Austin and Liam Smyth grabbing the vital goals in extra-time on Tuesday night.

Delighted manager Tony Joyce said: “We had a bit of a pleasant evening, yes. But only in the end, though.

“It’s lovely getting to two cup finals but now we’ve got to win one if not both of them.”

Top scorer Stacey Field got United off to a blistering start as he fired home after just five minutes.

But from there Joyce’s side fell apart as the Jets roared into life with three goals in 13 minutes ensuring a half-time rollicking.

“You could not print what I said at half-time,” said Joyce. “They knew they had let themselves down.

“We just had to make a little bit of adjusting and it worked. I’m big enough and bold enough to know to change things.”

An early goal was just what the doctor ordered as Louis Austin nipped in to head over a stranded Jets keeper.

The game was end-to-end but Ben Butler to got the equaliser as he finished off Field’s square ball.

Jack Wood had Ducks fans hearts in their mouths as he almost stole the win only for his header to cannon off the bar.

Oxhey took control in extra-time but could not convert their chances as Austin and Smyth wrapped it up.

United will either play Tring Athletic or Hadley in the final on May 1 at Berkhamstead, kick-off tbc.
