Combining technique and passion a British cage fighting champion has his sights set on taking on the very best in the United States.
Chris Fensom, 26, of Haddenham, recently defeated James Bray in front of 4,000 people to claim the British 84kg championship.
He said: “I compete in several different martial arts.
“The title win was the biggest one so far though.
“Next year, though, I want to go to America and compete in the submission wrestling championships.
“Some of the events they get millions watching on pay-per-view.”
The fighter has been competing for 13 years and trains 130 students in the Thame area in various martial arts.
But despite a wealth of experience he is not afraid to admit he still fears entering the ring.
“Before any fight you do interviews and you say ‘I’m not afraid, I’m going to destroy them’,” said Fensom.
“But the reality is you are quite petrified. All the guys are.
“But once you get in the ring you feel very invincible. You feel a bit like Mike Tyson.”
Some families would dread their relative stepping in the ring but it’s different for the 26-year-old whose wife also knows martial arts.
He added: “She’s six months pregnant at the moment so she’s a spectator.
“But she’s a nurse and a midwife so if I get hurt she helps take care of me.”
