A new tea room is hoping to bring a bit of unique English class to Aylesbury town centre.
Valerie ‘Jean’ Taylor, officially launched Serenity Gifts Crafts & Tea Room in Kingsbury Square on Thursday with Aylesbury mayor Ranjula Takodra cutting the ribbon.
Mrs Taylor said: “There’s lots of cafes around. I think a tea room is missing from the area. We are not a cafe, though.
“Around Aylesbury there’s nowhere that does cream teas. There’s places in Wendover, Beaconsfield. Why not Aylesbury?”
A key element to Mrs Taylor’s tea room is that it will offer arts and crafts classes and encourage people to showcase their work there.
The owner added: “Quite a few crafts people are interested. We will charge a small fee for classes, maybe £2.50.
“It’s got to be worthwhile running them, though.”
Mrs Taylor owned the building previously and converted it before opening for business two weeks before Christmas.
She said business had been slow to start with but was optimistic for the future.
Mrs Taylor added: “One the sun starts shining and spring has sprung people will have a different outlook.
“Quite a few people think I’m crazy for doing it. But I’ve got the vision. I’ve been planning this for three years.”
The tea room is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 6pm.
