Chinnor picked up their third win on the trot with an absorbing and tense 35-34 win over Redruth at Kingsey Road on Saturday.
Despite only having 13 men on the pitch for the last 15 minutes the black-and-whites held out for the bonus point win.
Jason Bower’s side are well on course for their highest ever league finish and it was clear why as they dominated from the outset with well worked tries for Hales, Stoop and Millett putting them firmly in the driving seat.
Fly-half Millet again showed his soft hands as he twice dummied to scorch through for the pick of the first three tries.
After the break the black-and-whites again took the initiative as the ball was flung across the backs for Goode to dance through for the crucial bonus point. The conversion made it 30-10 and it was time for Chinnor to put their feet up.
Immediately Redruth replied with a try but Chinnor were equal to them as a sweeping move found Gilbert in space and he made it five tries for the home side.
But then began the Cornish comeback. A succession of tries and Chinnor’s indiscipline brought the game to 35-34 with 85 minutes gone. Fortunately the vital conversion was missed as Kingsey Road breathed a sigh of relief.
