The success of Thame Carnival has benefitted three local chairities who each have received cheques from the committee.
More than £2,000 has been split between the Sharing Life Trust, Thomley Activity Centre and Safari/Wombles.
The money was presented to them by carnival chairman Mark Green and committee member Emma Davis outside Thame Town Hall on Tuesday (February 12).
Mark Green and Phil Stratton were there on behalf of the Sharing Life Trust. The charity provides counselling; offers a furniture and appliance exchange service; helps with transport and gives home support through cooking meals or doing maintenance work.
Harriet Hieatt-Smith represented the Thomley Acitivity Centre a recreational facility in Worminghall for disabled children, their families, friends, schools and groups.
Mr Green said the carnival committee has been able to support local charities for the past two years thanks to the newly found success of the carnival. Money raised from this year’s carnival in June will be donated to the new Thame Youth Cafe. Mr Green said that although the cafe has been awarded a grant of £10,000, the annual running costs will amount to £12,000.
The theme for the 2013 carnival will be musicals.
