A MUM from Chinnor is fundraising for a charity which cares for sick newborns after her own daughter had to have a blood transfusion when she was just hours old.

Lara Collen’s daughter Emily was diagnosed with a low platelet count 10 hours after she was born.

She was given a lifesaving blood transfusion and is now four years old.

Lara, 26, said: “Emily was born after 38 weeks. Everything seemed okay but then she developed lots of bruises.

“They diagnosed her after 10 hours and had to give her the transfusion after 17. It definitely saved her life.”

Lara, who has just given birth to her second child Elliot, is now organising a charity ball to raise money to help sick newborn babies.

The ball is being held in August at The Oxford Belfry with all profits going towards Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents (SSNAP), a charity which finances the special care baby unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Tickets to the fundraising event cost £40 per head and Lara is still looking for sponsors.
