Chinnor boss Jason Bowers will leave the club at the end of the season after six years at Kingsey Road.
The black and whites have exceeded all expectations this season and are flying high in seventh in the SSE National League 2 South notching up a 29-17 win over Lydney on Saturday. Bowers took the decision after a promotion in his role at the RFU and said: “It’s been a tough 24 hours for me and the club.
“But we thought it’s a good time for us.
“We could finish in our highest league position in 50 years.
“It’s been really tough and a heart wrenching decision at times.
“But I’m looking forward to pitching up next year as a fan with a beer and a few mates.”
After coming to Kingsey Road halfway through the 2006/07 season Chinnor were relegated.
However, Bowers has since developed the club and should they not be relegated this season it will be the club’s highest finish in their history.
The club have announced Bowers’ replacement will be former Scottish international and Lions player Craig Chalmers, who as a coach won the Scottish First Division title twice with Melrose RFC in 2011 and 2012.
With Chinnor bidding for their highest ever finish Bowers was pleased to see the side return to winning ways against Lydney.
Tries from Frank Jones, Leo Fielding, David Hughes gave Chinnor a 22-7 half-time lead before Sam Stoop touched down a 95 metre counter-attacking move in the second half.
The black-and-whites host Canterbury on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).
