Chinnor’s winter blues continued as they came unstuck at league leaders Worthing 31-15.

Jason Bowers had demanded a reaction from his side after a shock 36-24 loss in Chinnor’s last match to basement dwellers Barking.

It had been two weeks since their last outing because of the cold snap but the black-and-whites more than matched their more illustrious opponents in the opening stages.

Worthing looked to be taking a 12-3 lead into half-time before Chinnor executed a catch and drive to perfection with number eight Liam Gilbert grounding the ball.

The Raiders stormed out after the break with two quick fire tries to make it 26-8 and show why their eyes are on the SSE National League 2 South title.

In the reverse outing Chinnor dealt Worthing one of their only two defeats all season but despite another converted try the Sussex side pulled away comfortably with a late try to make it 31-15.

After a surprisingly strong start to the season Chinnor are sitting pretty in seventh.

However, Bowers said the second half of the season will be a different challenge.

Without a win in two Chinnor now return to Kingsey Road on Saturday, for the first of three home fixtures on the bounce, against Lydney (kick-off 2.30pm).
