Trace your family tree across Aylesbury Vale

FAMILIES can trace their ancestors back to 1538, thanks to a database which goes on display in Aylesbury this week.

It has been created by volunteers from the Buckinghamshire Family History Society – and contains five million records.

The research includes names found in thousands of wills, census returns and workhouse records.

It also includes the details of Aylesbury’s 19th century prisoners and the convicts transported from the Vale to Australia.

Some of the records date back to 1538 when Thomas Cromwell decreed that records should be kept.

On Saturday the society is holding a talk to show how to make the most out of the database.

It takes place at Prebendal Farm Community Centre, in Fowler Way, Aylesbury, at 2.30pm.

Non-members of the society are welcome to attend the talk.
