School moves up a grade after inspection

‘Outstanding’ teaching practices and pupil progress at an Aylesbury school have been praised in an Ofsted report.

Bearbrook Combined School was rated ‘good’ in its latest inspection, having previously been marked as ‘satisfactory’.

Inspectors said the infant and junior school has been ‘highly effective in leading the changes that have resulted in rapid improvements in teaching and pupils’ achievement since the previous inspection’. They added that there are now more ‘outstanding’ lessons.

Headteacher Marcus Faulkner said the school was ‘justifiably proud’ of the result.

However, the report said pupils who are more able are not given enough chances to work at their own pace and the work they are given is not always hard enough and that marking is not used consistently to tell students how to improve their work.

Mr Faulkner said: “We will not rest on our laurels and will continue to improve the education for the children who attend Bearbrook so that they can be provided with the ‘outstanding’ education that they deserve.”
