People with norovirus symptoms are being asked to stay away from Stoke Mandeville Hospital to prevent the further spread of the disease in wards.

As is normal at this time of year the winter vomiting bug is circulating within the community and some inpatient wards have been hit, with visiting restricted in affected areas.

Symptoms include diarrhoea and vomiting and it can be passed from person to person.

Patients due to come into hospital should contact staff if they have had any symptoms in the last 48 hours, while visitors should stay away if they have shown any signs of the disease recently.

Kathy Cann, consultant microbiologist at Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “We will try to contact a patient’s next of kin to inform them of any restrictions in advance, but if you are unsure please check before visiting by calling the appropriate ward.”

Medical advice for those with norovirus is to rest at home, avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of fluids and eat foods such as rice, soup, pasta or bread, which are easy to digest.
