Amateur choir Lord Williams’s Festival Chorus received distinguished praise after its performance of Delius’ Sea Drift on Saturday.
In the audience was the Martin Lee-Brown, chairman of the Delius Society and world expert on composer Frederick Delius – who afterwards sent a letter afterwards congratulating the choir.
Choir musical director John Gibbons (pictured) said, “I had a letter from Martin Lee-Brown after the concert, congratulating the choir on an excellent performance of a very difficult work.
“Martin is co-writing a definitive guide to the music of Delius so he certainly knows Sea Drift very well.
“When I told him that Lord Williams’s Festival Chorus is an un-auditioned choir that anyone can join, he was amazed.’
The choir was awarded a grant by the Delius Trust to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
Rehearsals for the next concert of Rutter’s Gloria start at Lord Williams’s upper school on January 7.
