Aylesbury FC’s chairman has declared it one of the club’s biggest weeks as they prepare to welcome neighbours and League One side MK Dons to town.

FC are due to play the Dons at Haywood Way next Wednesday in the Berks & Bucks Cup second round (kick-off 7.45pm) and Martone said he was really looking forward to it.

He said: “It will be a good game. They are bringing eight recognisable names in their squad.

“There are some regular first team players, reserves and some highly rated youngsters.

“To have them in a competitive game it will be a bit more exciting than a friendly.

“And with a competitive game comes expectation.”

Martone said if FC were to upset the odds it would go down as one of their greatest achievements but that he was cautious about their chances.

He added: “If you beat a football league side that’s what football history is all about.

“It’s all about the memories. I still remember having the FA Cup here.

“They are bringing a full squad down here though. They are taking it very seriously.

“The result does matter, though. We are playing them to beat them.

“The two local sides have got a lot of history.”

The chairman also paid tribute to the Dons for ‘going a very long way to making sure the game is played’ despite an option of cancelling to focus on other commitments.

“It would have been very easy for them to say look forget it.”
