Bearbrook Running Club’s men and women teams put up a determined showing at Slough on Saturday.
The ladies squad battled to second place out of 17 and the men ended up in fourth in their race between 19 teams during the Apex Sports Chiltern Cross Country League division two fixture.
With both results combined, Bearbrook now sit 4th out of 19 teams in the overall standings.
Graham Smith headed the men’s contingent home over the five-mile course in Slough, stopping the clock on 32m 55s to finish 34th out of 117 runners.
In the ladies race over a shorter 3.5-mile course, Emma Curtis-Smith was the first of the Bearbrook contingent to reach the finish. Her time of 22m 30s secured third place overall out of 70.
The battle for Chiltern League honours resumes on January 12 when the penultimate round of the series is held in Luton.
The final round of the competition will be held in Wing on February 9.
