The annual Thame 10km road race will be going all hi-tech next year with runners urged to book their places online and bib numbers fitted with timing microchips.

The town’s largest mass participation sports event started in the 1980s as a charity fundraiser for the Thame Boys Brigade and has grown to be one of the key sporting fixtures in the area with 1,000 competitors.

Thame Runners took over the organisation of the event after the first year but have kept the charities as a priority allocating profits to good causes in Thame.

A total of £2,375 was distributed locally after the 2012 race.

The 2013 event is planned for Sunday June 30 (9.30am) from Thame Leisure Centre. This will be the last year the organisers will accept entries by post/cheque and to encourage the transition to online entry only, it will be cheaper to enter via the Runners World website www.runnersworld.co.uk

A new chip timing company will also be used in 2013 with the electronic chip embedded in the race number bib.
